On Friday 10th November KS1 children stayed in school and made their own paper plate wreath. We watched a short Remembrance clip in Class 2, to start our morning.
We painted a paper plate green, then cut out poppy and leaf outlines from red and green card. Once these steps were complete, we glued black buttons onto the poppy centre. We arranged and glued our leaves and poppies to the plate. We all lined up on the top playground where we could all see the church clock and listened to the bells ringing, we then observed a 2-minute silence.
KS2 went to Carlisle Cathedral, we also made paper poppies. We made them out of tissue paper and card then placed them into an oasis wreath. After that, we were given a guided tour of the inside of the cathedral. We looked at the regimental area, memorial plaques and saw the books of Remembrance, listing people who have died in the wars. We laid down to look at the amazing, starry ceiling. A poem was read and we all observed 2 minutes silence. Finally, our wreath was laid at the regimental altar.
